Midge: Es ist ein neues Album in Arbeit, aber ich kann nicht sagen, wann es fertig sein wird. Weder Become noch Survived sind bis jetzt fertig gestellt, sie sind immer noch "Work in Progress".

Warum sind die von vielen Fans gefeierten Lieder "Heart" und "Come the day" nie als Single erschienen? Warum spielst Du diese Lieder kaum live?

Midge: Heart war nur ein Demo-Song, und für mich nicht geeignet, als Teil einer offiziellen CD veröffentlicht zu werden. Come the Day wurde für einen Film geschrieben, aber ich denke, ich habe das Lied niemals live gespielt.

Mit wem würdest Du gerne mal ein Duett aufnehmen? (mit Kate Bush hast Du Dir ja schon einen Traum verwirklicht) bzw. gibt es einen Künstler, mit dem Du unbedingt noch einmal gerne arbeiten würdest?

Midge: Ich denke, die Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Künstlern muss auf natürlichem Wege passieren, mit beiderseitigem Respekt vor der Arbeit des jeweils anderen und nicht nur, um mehr CDs zu verkaufen. Wenn also so etwas in der Zukunft passiert, dann ist es etwas Echtes. Ich arbeite derzeit mit Moby an einem Musikstück, weiß aber noch nicht, ob es jemals veröffentlicht werden wird!

Was hältst Du von einer Clubtour OHNE DIE SINGLES, die wir eingefleischten Fans schon unzählige Male gehört haben?

Midge: Man kann es nicht jedem Recht machen. Wenn ich diese Singles nicht spiele, würde ein Großteil des Publikums ziemlich enttäuscht sein.

Fans sind nicht gleich Fans. Was ist für Dich als Künstler akzeptabel und wann fühlst Du Dich bedrängt?

Midge: Meine Fans sind sich meiner Privatsphäre sehr bewusst und meiden es, mich zu bedrängen. Es ist niemals ein Problem, Dinge zu signieren oder Fotos machen zu lassen. Nur ein kleiner Prozentsatz der Leute erwartet, dass man überdimensional viel Zeit hat, mit ihnen zu reden. 

MIDGE DER MENSCH

Bis zu welchem Grad hast Du Deine Autobiografie selbst geschrieben? Sind neue Kapitel geplant inkl. der Ultravox-Reunion?

Midge: Wenn es mir überlassen gewesen wäre, meine Biografie zu schreiben, würde ich immer noch daran arbeiten! Ich arbeitete mit einem befreundeten Journalisten, erzählte ihm die  Geschichte und er schrieb sie auf. Es gibt keine Updates oder neuen Kapitel im Buch, das scheint ein Missverständnis zu sein.

Was machst Du, um Stress abzubauen? (z.B. Sport)

Midge: Mir in Hotelzimmern ein paar ruhige Minuten gönnen.

Gibt es, in deiner Zeitplanung ein Ritual, dass Du dir nie nehmen lassen würdest, egal was kommt?

Midge: Ich bin kein ritueller Mensch…

Wie  verbringst Du deine Freizeit, wenn Du mal welche hast? Hobbies?

Midge: Alles, was ich außerhalb der Zeit mit meiner Familie tue, hat irgendwie mit Musik zu tun.

Wenn Du Erfinder wärst, was würdest oder hättest Du erfunden?

Midge: Sofortiges Reisen – drück einen Knopf und Du kommst augenblicklich dort an, wo Du hin möchtest.

Würdest Du den Juror für eine Casting-Sendung (z.B. Britain's Next Talent, X-Factor) machen? Was hältst Du von solchen Sendungen? Falls nichts, glaubst Du, ob Paul Potts oder Susan Boyle sonst je eine Chance gehabt hätten?

Midge: Sendungen wie diese würden mich nicht für ihre Jury haben wollen. Ich würde nach anderen Künstlern suchen.

Was möchtest Du in Deinem Leben unbedingt noch tun / ausprobieren (z.B. ein bestimmtes Land bereisen, einen Fallschirmsprung machen, ein weiteres Buch schreiben, ein neues Instrument lernen etc)

Midge: Im Moment fällt mir dazu nichts ein, obwohl es in dieser Welt noch so viel zu lernen und entdecken gäbe.

Du nutzt seit kurzem Twitter zur direkten Kommunikation mit Deinen Fans. Gefällt Dir das und wird man Dich demnächst auch in anderen sozialen Netzwerken wie Facebook oder MySpace finden?

Midge: Twitter ist für mich ein Kommunikationsinstrument, daher sehe ich keinen Grund, Facebook oder MySpace zu nutzen. Ich nutze www.tunited.com ebenfalls als ein soziales Netzwerk – ein großartiger Weg, Musik und Ideen zu teilen.

Was ist für Dich ein perfekter Tag? 

Midge: Einer, an dem ich am Ende immer noch atme!

Bist Du in regelmäßigem Kontakt mit Mick? Wie geht es ihm? Bist Du immer noch dabei, ein Benefizkonzert für ihn zu organisieren. Wenn ja, kannst Du uns etwas darüber verraten?

Midge: Mick geht es den Umständen entsprechend gut. Wir reden immer noch darüber, etwas für ihn zu tun, aber es könnte kein Konzert werden, denn es gestaltet sich als schwierig, all diese Künstler an einen Ort zur selben Zeit zu bekommen. Ich halte Euch auf dem Laufenden!

MIDGE UND ULTRAVOX

Was machen Chris, Billy und Warren im Moment?

Midge: Jeder macht wieder sein eigenes Ding. Warren ist in Los Angeles, Billy ist in London und Chris und ich sind in Bath. Wir sprechen immer noch miteinander, sind immer noch in Kontakt.

OMD hat gezeigt, dass ein erfolgreiches Comeback möglich ist, und Billy sagte neulich im Interview das Folgende:

"We have enjoyed it very much. We are discussing the idea of new material now.

I think it would be very exciting to do that. Ultravox out next year touring and playing tracks from a new album. Yes!" Midge, was sagst Du dazu: Ebenfalls „YES“ or „MAYBE“ or „NO“

Midge: Die Tatsache, dass vor zwei Jahren noch niemand gedacht hätte, dass wir noch einmal zusammen arbeiten würden, beweist tatsächlich, dass Dinge sich ändern. Wir haben die Idee von neuem Material diskutiert, aber uns ist bewusst, dass ein neues Album extrem gut sein muss. Nur weil wir wieder erfolgreich zusammen auf Tour waren, heißt das nicht, dass wir fähig sind, ein neues Album zu schreiben und aufzunehmen.

Gibt es bereits Tourpläne bzw. Anfragen für das Jahr 2011?

Midge: Wer weiß? Wenn etwas auf uns zu kommt, das uns interessiert, werden wir darüber nachdenken.

Wann erscheint die 4-Track EP? Pünktlich zur RTE3 Tour oder zu Weihnachten?

Midge: Sollte in den nächsten paar Wochen  draußen sein.

MIDGE UND SEINE TREUEN DEUTSCHEN FANS

Sind Dir die Fanseiten „offizielle deutsche Mailingliste - midgeure.eu`` als auch die inoffizielle ultravox.npage.de bekannt? Wie gefallen Dir die Seiten?

Midge: Die Websites sind  meiner Meinung nach großartig. Es braucht eine große Hingabe, sie zu gestalten und auf dem Laufenden zu halten. Ich erfahre hier mehr über mich als ich selbst weiß!

Warum schreibst Du nicht ab und zu Deinen deutschen Fans eine kurze Mitteilung, da es ja nun insgesamt nicht wirklich viele Fanseiten gibt?

Midge: Ich schreibe für alle auf Twitter!!!

MIDGE THE MUSICIAN

Is a new solo-album planned or are you already working on it? With “Become” and “I survived” two songs are already finished ...

Midge: There is a new album underway but I can't say when it will be finished. Neither Become or Survived are finished yet, they are still work in progress.

Why are songs like „Heart“ or „Come the day“ , which are loved by the fans, never lifted as a single? Why don’t you play them live (or just rarely)?

Midge: Heart was just a demo song but not right for me to release as part of an official cd. Come the day was written for a movie and I don't think I have ever performed it live!

With whom would you like to do a duet (like with Kate Bush you already made a dream come true)? Respectively is there an artist you would like to work with? 

Midge:  I think working with other artists should happen organically , where there is a mutual respect for each others work and not just to try and sell more records so if something happens in the future it will be something real. I am working with Moby on some music at the moment but don't know if it will ever be released!

What do you think about a club tour WITHOUT THE SINGLES every hardcore fan had heard innumerable times? 

Midge: Sometimes you cannot please everyone! If I didn't play the singles a large part of the audience would feel very cheated.

There are different kinds of fans – what is still acceptable for the artist Midge Ure and when do you feel hassled?

Midge: My fans are very aware of my privacy and avoid troubling me too much. It's never a problem signing things and having photos taken. Only a small percentage of people expect you to spend huge amounts of time talking to them.
 

MIDGE THE PERSON

Until what degree did you wrote your biography by yourself? Are new chapters planned including the Ultravox-reunion?

Midge: If it was left to me to physically write my biography I would still be writing it now! I worked with a journalist friend who made me tell the story, he wrote it all down. There are no new updates or chapters in the book. There seems to be a misconception over this.

What do you do to relieve stress (for example sports)?

Midge: Try to catch up on quiet time in hotel rooms!

Is there a ‘ritual’ in your scheduling that you wouldn’t forbear, whatever happens?

Midge: I'm not a ritualistic person.......

How do you spend you free time when you have some? Any hobbies?

Midge: Everything I do outside of family time revolves round music in some way.

If you were an inventor, what would you invent?

Midge: Instant travel. Press a button and you arrive where you want to be instantly!

Would you be a juryman in a casting show like Britains Next Talent or X-Factor? What do you think about these shows? Do you think that artists like Paul Potts or Susan Boyle otherwise would have had a chance?

Midge: Programs like that wouldn't have someone like me as a judge. I would be looking for a different type of artist.

Is there anything you are eager to do or would you like to try something out (for example visit a special country, skydiving, write another book, learn a new instrument, …)

Midge: Nothing I can think of at this moment although there is so much more to learn and achieve in the world.

For a short time you are using Twitter to communicate with your fans. Do you like it and will we find you in other social networks like Facebook or MySpace soon?

Midge:  Twitter works for me as a communication tool so I don't see the need for Facebook or myspace. I do use tunited.com as a social networking tool as well. A great way of sharing music and ideas.

What do you call ‚a perfect day‘?

Midge:  One here I'm still breathing at the end of it!

Are you in regular contact with Mick? How is he? Are you still in the process of organising a fund-raising concert for him? If yes, can you tell us more about it?

Midge: Mick is as well as can be expected. We are still talking about doing something for him but it might not be a concert as it's proving difficult getting all the artists in the one place at the one time. Watch this space....I will keep you all informed.

What are Chris, Billy and Warren doing at the moment?

Midge: Everyone is back doing their own thing. W is in Los Angeles, B is in London and C and I are in Bath. Still talking, still in touch.
 

OMD showed that a successful comeback is possible and lately Billy said the following in an interview: "We have enjoyed it very much. We are discussing the idea of new material now. I think it would be very exciting to do that. Ultravox out next year touring and playing tracks from a new album. Yes!" Midge, what do YOU say about that: YES, NO or MAYBE? And why?

Midge: The fact that two years ago the idea of us working together was never going to happen proves that things change. We have discussed the idea of new material but we are very aware it would have to be extremely good. Just because we toured successfully again doesn't mean that we are capable of writing and recording a new album.

Any plans for another tour in 2011?

Midge: Who knows. If something comes to us which interests us we will consider it.

When the 4-track-EP will be released? In time for the RTE3-tour or Christmas …?

Midge: It should be out in the next few weeks.......

Midge: The websites I think are great. It takes great dedication to do them and keep them up to date. I learn more about me from them that even I know!
